What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a procedure performed using small needles. These needles are almost as thin as a hair. Each needle is sterile, stainless steel and disposable (Acupuncture needles are used only once).

Acupuncture for Pain Treatment

Clinical research has proven that acupuncture works, and that it can be used to treat pain.  Acupuncture may be used to treat pain in conjunction with prescribed pain medication or without. Our goal is always to reduce and keep our patients without the need of pain pills.

The Effects of Acupuncture

Acupuncture procedures provide many positive effects for patients:

Acupuncture can be a viable alternative to traditional medicine.

In many cases, Acupuncture is an excellent natural alternative to other forms of medicine and medical treatments. Consider this, Acupuncture has an 85% success rate to treat pain in patients who’ve never undergone surgery related to the condition being treated. In comparison, back surgery has a 50% success rate. If a patient is prescribed Acupuncture treatment following a back surgery, then the success rate of the Acupuncture decreases to 50% as well. Patients should receive acupuncture treatment before they try surgery unless they have a life threatening condition.

Additional comparisons could be studied and observed for each type of medical condition and the results would vary. In many cases, acupuncture and herbal medicine are options which can be very valuable for patients to explore before pursuing traditional treatments. Sometimes Acupuncture and herbal medicine are safer than traditional medicine and in some cases, if there is an emergency, traditional medicine should be used. It is important to understand that medicine and holistic medicine have their limits.

Acupuncture History

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Originating in China, acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of healing in the world. Acupuncture is a stimulation of specific points along the human body using thin needles. It can be associated with heat, pressure, or laser light. Upon receiving treatment, the patient obtains a “qi” (feeling of sensation). The De Qi sensation is widely known as the needle sensation. Research has found that acupuncture treats many conditions both minor and serious.
